HBR101
ASPHALT CONCRETE PLANT  INSPECTION

Video
This program is made up of five parts, covering the following:

  1. Asphalt mixture, basic mixing process, basic operation of asphalt
batch plants, and basic operation of dryer drum plants.
  2. Material controls for aggregates, admixtures, and asphalt.
  3. Inspection and controls for batch plants.
  4. Inspection and controls for dryer drum plants.
  5. Control procedures for asphalt mix.

25 minutes.  Also available in Arabic.

HBR103
ASPHALT CONCRETE PAVING  INSPECTION

Video
This program is made up of four parts, covering the following:

  1. The inspection of equipment and materials used for asphalt concrete paving.
  2. Preparation for paving, including alignment control, grade control,
    and weather limits.
  3. Inspection procedures for the paving operation, for the delivery of the
mix to the job site, and for the construction of transverse and longitudinal joints.
  4. Inspection procedures for the compaction of the asphalt mix in each rolling phase.

25 minutes.  Also available in Arabic.

HBR104
ASPHALT DISTRIBUTOR  OPERATION

Video
Covers instruments and controls, safety practices, general operating tips, preparing the distributor for operation, filling the distributor from a supply source, heating the bitumen in the distributor, adjusting the spray bar and nozzles, and spraying operations.  Operations procedures for spraying road lanes and shoulders are demonstrated.  How to get uniform spraying at the desired spray rate is also discussed.  Hand spraying, pump-off and drawing materials in the bar back to the tank, and draining and flushing the circulating system, spray bar, and tank are presented in detail.  30 minutes.

HBR105
ASPHALT EMULSION SPRAY  APPLICATIONS

Video
Describes and demonstrates:  (1) what an asphalt emulsion is; (2) pavement surface treatments with asphalt emulsion and aggregates; (3) the steps to be followed for optimal results from emulsion surface treatments; and (4) the universal applicability of emulsion spray applications.  The program’s narration and graphics are simple and free from quantitative information and complex specifications.  It is suitable for showing to all concerned with spray applications and surface treatments using asphalt emulsions.  23 minutes.

HBR106
Asphalt Overlays for  Rehabilitation

Slides
This audio-visual program demonstrates the asphalt overlay design techniques for overlaying existing asphalt and concrete pavements.  It is intended for those responsible for rehabilitation programs.  80 slides.  Narration on cassette with script.

HBR107
ASPHALT THROUGH THE AGES

Video
This video, through imaginative animation techniques and actual photography, follows the use of asphalt from ancient times in the Middle East to present-day applications in building materials, water control, and its major use—asphalt highways.  12 minutes.

HBR108
Budgeting for Rehabilitation

Slides
This slide show focuses on the problems of deteriorating streets, roads and highways.  Photographs, graphics and cartoons present concepts of pavement life cycles, rehabilitation options and strategies, and the real cost of deferring necessary rehabilitation.  80 slides.  Narration on cassette with script.

HBR109
CHIP SEAL, PRIME, FLUSH AND  TACK COAT INSPECTION

Video
This module presents detailed procedures for these surface treatments, including inspection and controls for materials, equipment, and construction.  18 minutes.  Also available in Arabic.

HBR113
FIELD SAMPLING AND  TESTING FOR BITUMINOUS  CONSTRUCTION

Video
This program has four parts:

  1. Bituminous mixtures.
  2. Procedures for sampling aggregates, asphalt, and bituminous mixtures.
  3. Field testing methods for aggregates, including gradation test, sand
equivalent test, crushed faces test, and flakiness index test.
  4. Field testing methods for bituminous mixtures, including particle coating test,
extraction test, moisture content test, asphalt retention test, rice test
(for determination of the maximum specific gravity of uncompacted mixtures), and Marshall test.

40 minutes.  Also available in Arabic.

HBR118
OPERATOR DAILY MAINTENANCE OF ASPHALT DISTRIBUTORS

Video
This program covers daily preventive maintenance requirements and procedures for asphalt distributors.  As with all vehicles, the asphalt distributor’s daily maintenance consists of various activities that are performed during the work day.  They include four areas:  the pre-start check, the warm-up check, the daily operating check, and the shut-down check.  The videotape also covers the test of the distribution power system, the inspection and cleaning of the bitumeter, the test and adjustments of the spray bar and nozzles, and procedures for cleaning out the asphalt distribution system.  15 minutes.  Also available in Spanish and Arabic.

HBR123
RECYCLING ROADS WITH  ASPHALT EMULSIONS

Video
This video highlights the methods and materials used throughout the United States to recycle low-volume road materials to construct asphalt-strengthened pavement bases.  Both central plant and in-place operations are shown, focusing on the advantages of cold-mix recycling as a cost-effective road rehabilitation and improvement option.  The program is useful for engineers involved in the development of rehabilitation programs for low-volume roads.  It is also aimed at state and local government officials, and all concerned with local roads.  22 minutes.

HBR124A
Rehabilitation of Portland   Cement Concrete Pavements
Using Hot-Mix Asphalt  Overlays

Video
This video illustrates four methods for preparing pcc pavements for an asphalt overlay:  crack and seat, break and seat, rubbizing, and sawcut and seal.  Each of these procedures have proven effective in preventing reflective cracking in hot mix asphalt overlays.  The video presents the construction processes and basic overlay design techniques involved with these techniques.  18 minutes.

HBR202
Batching, Mixing and Transporting Ready-Mixed Concrete

Video
Provides an understanding of the requirements for production and handling of ready-mixed concrete.  Discusses the manufacturers’ and purchasers’ responsibilities and reviews the provisions of purchase options.  Also covers types of mixers, mixing times, uniformity requirements, hauling units, job site control and basis for acceptance.  Instructor’s guide is included.  25 minutes.
