Setting Maintenance Priorities for Low-Volume Roads

Video
The purposes of road maintenance are to reduce the rate of deterioration and increase life of roads, reduce vehicle operating costs by providing good riding surfaces and keep roads open all year-round.  These are discussed clearly in the video.

Setting priorities for low-volume roads is a unique process and is shown in detail.  The first step is to establish the extent of the total maintenance requirement by inspecting road conditions.  Then do a traffic count to get traffic volume on each road.  A recommended single road maintenance classification based on traffic can be used.  The work can be grouped under routine, periodic and emergency.  Finally, develop a work plan with maintenance tasks in order of priority.  20 minutes.
