This Video gives you an overview of the Construction Management System (CMS).  The five major elements of the CMS are:  planning and staffing, budgeting, scheduling, monitoring, and system updating.  These elements are modular in design and are flexible.  Where more than one effective method could be developed, the alternatives are shown with suggested uses and procedures.  21 minutes.

Video

The objective of the planning step is to estimate the total manpower required to perform field construction management functions.  Three planning methods based on defined contract quantities, defined contract limits, and programmed dollar amounts are shown on the tape.

Definitions of contract types, how to select con-tract types, how to select planning activities, how to select planning units of measure are also clearly presented in the training course.  20 minutes.

Developing Contract Staffing Guidelines and Planning Values

Video
This video discusses staffing guidelines used in establishing standard planning values and in assigning personnel to field contracts.  The two methods of maximum staffing and minimum staffing are shown.  They are used to reduce understaffing and overstaffing.  The two steps of standard planning values used in manpower planning are presented, for individual activities (approximately 40 activities) and activity groups (4 groups).  They are staking, inspection, office engineering and project management.  18 minutes.

This course shows recommended procedures for developing manpower planning, selecting a manpower staffing method, estimating the requirement for each month or each four-week period, procedures for developing manpower distribution, procedures for developing manpower balancing, guidelines for developing skill level, procedures for determining skill level requirements, developing budgeting procedures, developing standard costs, selecting a scheduling method, and developing scheduling procedures.  20 minutes.
