EXAMINATION OF THE PLACENTA
Video
This video program demonstrates the gross examination of the placental membranes and
umbilical cord. An impaired placenta can compromise the fetus and pose serious risk
to the pregnancy and the physical well-being of the mother. A thorough examination
of the placenta can alert the caregiver of possible or existing problems with the neonate
and/or new mother, and may be used to formulate and direct a specific care plan.
Included is an examination of normal placental and umbilical cord anatomy, as well as
malformations, variations and anomalies. Graphics are used to review aspects of
