Clubfoot occurs in approximately one in one thousand births, and the parents of these children often are concerned that their child will not be able to live a normal life.  This video program addresses parents’ and family members’ concerns and answers questions related to improving the physical condition of the child with clubfoot.  The progress of one toddler is followed from initial leg casts through surgery and, finally, to leg braces. These different treatments result in the normal positioning of the child’s feet.  13 minutes.

HIP FRACTURE
Video
Discusses the high incidence of hip fracture injuries and cites the cost of such injuries both in utilization of healthcare resources and in increased morbidity and mortality of those affected.  Reviews preoperative care issues with specific reference to ER admittance, patient work-up, medical stabilization, and traction.  Details key fracture types and current surgical options, and their relevance to positioning and other care.  Discharge criteria and home health care issues are also discussed.  21 minutes.

Discusses the incidence of hip replacement surgery and pre-operative patient management issues.  These include patient education, transfer/gait training, and home modification.  Clarifies post-operative hip positioning and weight-bearing precautions with reference to surgical approach and prosthetic type.  Utilizes a “systems” approach to post-operative care, including assessment of cardiovascular, pulmonary, GI and urinary problems, pain management, transfusion, drains, wound care, and DVT prophylaxis.  Reviews hospital stay goals, discharge criteria, and home health care nursing.  25 minutes.
