SIC403C
Electrical Machines and
Control Circuits

SCOPE OF STUDY
This course is a continuation of Electronics for Automated Controls (SIP401C).  It provides for the study of motors and generators, their control circuits, and hands-on rail wiring of modern electrical devices.  Motors, generators, stepper motors, linear motion, motors, and solenoids are studied with a variety of practical machine experiments provided.  The study of transformers and single- and three-phase power is also included, as well as troubleshooting of circuits and solid-state devices.  The motors and controls supplied with the SIC403 may be interfaced with the S4

50C Smart Builder, also manufactured by the Science Instruments Company.

The equipment consists of a motor controls wiring and meter rack, which is arranged so that the student can wire motor control circuits in an industrial manner, and several daughter panels which are:

bulletA Temperature Control Relay Panel
bulletA Power Supply Inverter Panel
bulletA Programmable Controller Interface Panel,
bulletA Time Delay Panel.

The individual daughter panels are 3.5 inches X 4 inches.

The SIP403 contains a fused, regulated power supply for the motor control circuits.  It contains a shunt motor (24 VAC, 3600 RPM) and a universal motor (24 VAC, 3600 RPM) mounted to the base of the trainer, which allows flexible coupling between the motors for motor/generator studies.  The shunt motor base and the universal motor are prewired to a wiring junction box mounted on the components mounting rail

The SIP403-1P panel contains five meters:

bullet(1) 0-5000  DC Tachometer
bullet(2) 0-30  Voltmeters
bullet(1) 0-3.5  Ammeter
bullet(1)  0-5  Ammeter

Multicolored lamps and knife switches provide manual control of the circuit and motors.  Motor speed and control variations are provided by built-in rheostats.  The SIC403 operates on switchable 115 VAC / 60 Hz and 230 VAC / 50 Hz power and is used for 2 amps max. The physical dimensions of the SIP403 are 20 inches by 30 inches.
