SIP328DC
FM Stereo Radio

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The FM Stereo Radio, varactor tuned and with digital display, is a modern, sensitive, high-quality training unit for teaching the principles of operation, trouble-shooting and the alignment of FM tuners with IC stereo demodulators. The trainee can see, adjust, and generally familiarize himself with the overall operation of a modern FM Stereo receiver.

The highly sensitive (6 microvolt) receiver contains a 300 ohm balanced input antenna and is provided with an attached whip. The front-end is a three (3) gang tracked varactor tuner which contains a JFET RF amplifier. The highly stable local oscillator of the tuner feeds a digital frequency meter. Four 7-segment LED displays are provided to view the selected frequency. Tuning is provided by a multiturn planetary gear drive potentiometer. The high-fidelity output amplifier delivers 4 W (2 W per channel). Dual 8 ohm speakers can be attached.

The FM radio display includes a 200 microampere meter for center frequency tuning, a stereo indicator light and an RF signal strength light-bar. Malfunction switches (12) enable fault-insertion into most parts of the system.

For troubleshooting and general diagnostic training, the panel is reversible. Students work from the foil side.
