SIP365BC
Microwave Communications

SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The Microwave Transmitter and Receiver operate in the X band. The course materials include a comprehensive text-lab manual containing theory and experiments (over 400 pages), two panels, microwave plumbing, cables, and all the accessories needed for the experiments. The course requires two power supplies (one for each panel).

Eighteen major experiments cover microwave links, solid-state X band devices, antennas and transmission lines, fiber optics interfacing and cable losses, and multiplexing (TDM) of analog and PCM digital signals.

Emphasis is placed on microwave communication links. Materials are also provided for study of microwave components, determination of wavelength, frequency measurement, standing wave ration with various terminations, use of the Smith Chart, path loss and noise considerations, antenna gain, beamwidth and fiber optic interfacing.

Microwave parabolic dishes, path loss and noise experiments can be included in the study by adding the Microwave Antennas Course, SIC363AOC.

COURSE TIME: 100 hours

 FEATURES

  1. A comprehensive text-laboratory course which covers microwave transmitters, receivers, microwave components, and horn antennas.
  2. The system forms a microwave link for communicating by Voice, Audio, Wideband, Television and Video (B/W or Color), Signals (via fiber optics interface, for digital data), and PCM and Multiplexing Signals.
  3. The course includes Solid-State Transmitter and Receiver
  4. The course includes Microwave Experimental Components
  5. The course includes Power Meter and Microphone

COURSE MATERIALS

bulletThe equipment includes a basic microwave link which consists of Transmitter panel, Receiver panel, plus microwave components for transmission line studies. For experiments 16-18, two additional panels, one from the Optoelectronics Course (SIP375-3P), Multiplexer) and one from the Digital Communications Course, (SIP397-3P, Central Office), are required. One S300PB Panel Base will also be required for these experiments.
