SIP397-3P
Central Office

SCOPE
OF THE STUDY
The
Central Office Panel, SIP397-3P, is part of the Digital Communications
Course. The panel can also be used as an interface between a
subscriber's telephone and the Microwave Communications System,
SIP365BC. When interfaced with the microwave system, the panel
provides an electrical interface with the telephone, converts the analog
voice signal into a digital stream of 8-bit words, converts the digital
words into an optical transmission, decodes the optically received signal
and provides a replica of the original signal.
A
time slot assignment circuit (TSAC) selects the appropriate channel for
transmission and reception. The system operates over the voice
channel bandpass of 300 Hz-3400Hz. The low power optical driver,
designed for use within 1mm fiber optic cable, can drive cable lengths of
at least 4-5 meters. Since the cable produces phase shift, an
adjustable phase shift network is included on the panel.
