SIP397AC
Digital Communications

SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The Digital Telecommunications and Telephone Course is one of the highest technology programs offered by the Science Instruments Company, or any other company specializing in laboratory electronics equipment.  The course contains three laboratory panels, accessories, and a comprehensive manual.  It teaches how the conversion of analog signals into a serial stream of eight bits takes place.  Applications include the telephone industry, both wireless and fiber optics telecommunications, synthetic speech, and speech recognition.

Two of the three panels in this course must run simultaneously during certain laboratory experiments.  A Power Supply Base (S300PSB) and Panel Base (S300PB) are required.  If it is desired to breadboard either variation of panel circuits or to do general breadboarding, select the master Builder (S300B) in place of the S300PSB.

FEATURES

bulletA Comprehensive Study of Analog to Digital (PCM) Communications

DESCRIPTION

The SIP397A Course is a three panel Trainer on Digital Communications and Telephones.  It is a high-technology program containing three Insertion Panels, accessories, and a comprehensive Manual.  The course teaches how analog signals are digitized into a serial stream of eight bits and applied in telephones, computers, television, hi-fi systems, and fiber optic telecommunications.

Many modulation methods of encoding information are studied.  Several ICs and their experimental circuits are explored.  These circuits are then combined to form Large Scale Integrated (LSI) Circuits such as CODEC IC which includes digital filters, sample-and-hold circuits, and A/D and D/A converters.  Each circuit is studied individually to provide a sound basis for in-depth studies that follow.

POWER SUPPLIES

The Science Instruments Insertion Panels are complete systems on open printed circuit boards, with all components and circuits accessible for viewing, testing, and detailed study.  The panels are interchangeable with other SIC panels.  The panels are plugged into a common Power Supply Base (S300PSB).  When two panels have to be used at the same time, an extension Panel Base (S300PB) is available.  The S300PB Panel Base receives its power from an S300PSB through a multi-wire power cord.

By sharing the power supply, each Student Work Station requires only one Power Supply Base, thus effecting overall economy of power supply equipment in the laboratory.
