SIP398C
PABX

SCOPE OF STUDY
This computer-based course utilizes a digital-controlled modern PABX trainer.  The Z80 CPU and the EPROM interface with an external computer for diagnostic training.  The diagnostic program provides IC level troubleshooting of the system.

DESCRIPTION

The SIP398 PABX is completely compatible with the Bell and other telephone systems.  The PABX is a two-panel multifunctional telephone exchange, capable of working from two incoming lines and providing four extensions.  Either extension can act as a line attendant, or the line attendant function can be transferred to a remote location.  The system is specifically designed to train communications technicians and mechanics in the overall operation, maintenance and repair of a private PABX system.  Besides studying the numerous features of the microprocessor-based exchange, the student becomes thoroughly familiar width the interfacing of telephones and other electronic devices.  Telephones and other telephone devices interface with the operating system by using RJ11 Modular Jacks.  The Telephone system also includes public address paging, music-while-on-hold, and music-in-the-background, as well as intercom features.  Malfunction switches are included for troubleshooting practice.

PANEL SPECIFICATIONS

The two Insertion Panels are the Line Panel, or Input/Out Matrix, and the CPU, or Switching Panel.  Either one may be used with the S398PSB or the S398PB, with the other panel in the other base. The bases are connected through a dedicated cable for power and signals.  Music (IN) and Speakers (OUT) are connected to the CPU panel.

The PABX Trainer may be connected to a public phone line via ordinary phone plug-terminated wires from the Line Panel.  Two PABX systems may be connected in this manner over a public phone line, or may be interfaced together by means of the Science Instruments Phone-Line Interface Simulator and cables.

The PABX is supplied with three telephones, one for use on the trunk line and two for use at extensions.  Additional telephones are readily available.

The PABX Training System is designed to interface with other training systems produced by the Science Instruments Company.  Some of these other courses include Microwave Communications, Multiplexing of Signals on Fiber-Optics, and Digital Communications.  A microprocessor interface for diagnostic training is included.  Troubleshooting is performed on a PC.

NOTE: S398PSB and S398PB are PABX dedicated and cannot be used with other Science Instruments Trainers.
