Programmable Fluid Controllers

SCOPE OF STUDY
The Programmable Fluid Controllers Course includes experimental applications which
cover a wide range of pneumatic devices often encountered in industrial process control,
automation and robotics. While the industrial devices are small and designed to
operate on 30 PSI, the principles are applicable to high-pressure pneumatic and hydraulic
components.
The course introduces important types of fluid control devices, explains how they
function, and demonstrates how they are applied in industry. Once the components are
understood, the course advances from manual operation of controls to operation by means of
a programmable logic controller (PLC). The fundamentals of microprocessor-based
programming are introduced, and in the final experiments, the pneumatics panel
demonstrates how the programmed logic controller is applied.
The laboratory manual contains background discussion, experimental tests and
measurements, and review questions for each experiment. The laboratory manual is
written to encourage individuals to study at their own pace.
The S400 Smart Builder is required for programming control and DC power.
